The Art of Noticing & Guiding Movement
Seeing, Cueing & Creating Change
Seeing, Cueing & Creating Change is an immersive professional development experience designed to transform the way you observe movement, make clinical decisions and guide meaningful change. Rather than focusing on isolated techniques, the series explores the thinking that underpins effective teaching — helping you develop greater clarity, confidence and intention in every interaction with your clients.
Across four practical workshops, you’ll refine your ability to notice what matters, communicate with purpose and create movement experiences that feel more supportive, adaptable and effective. Each session builds on the last, creating an integrated learning journey that extends beyond individual exercises and into a deeper understanding of movement itself.
The result isn’t simply more knowledge or more cues. It’s a more sophisticated way of seeing, reasoning and teaching that can influence every class, every client and every decision you make in the studio.

Workshop 1. The Art of Observation — Developing Your Critical Eye
Seeing more clearly is the foundation of better teaching.
Develop a more discerning eye for movement, learning to separate meaningful patterns from background noise so you can make clearer, more confident teaching decisions.
Workshop 2. From Words to Hands — Cueing That Creates Change
How you communicate shapes how your clients move, learn and feel.
Refine the way you communicate by learning when to speak, when to use touch and when to step back, creating cueing that is simpler, more intentional and more effective
Workshop 3. Creating Space — Axial Elongation, Breath & Posterior Expansion
Rethink support as something that emerges through organisation rather than effort, unlocking new ways of approaching breath, axial elongation and whole-body integration.
Length is not something we create by pulling up or holding on. More often, it emerges when the body is organised in a way that allows space, adaptability and efficient load sharing.
Workshop 4. Beyond Tightness — Building Support Around the Hips & Pelvis
Challenge common assumptions about hip tightness and develop a richer understanding of how organisation, strength and adaptability can transform movement around the hips and pelvis.
Tight hips aren’t always a problem to stretch. More often, they’re an invitation to ask better questions about how the body is organising itself.
Julia Frankish is a Pilates educator, mentor and founder of Evolved Pilates, known for helping movement professionals think more deeply about the way they observe, reason and teach.
Rather than focusing on collecting more exercises or memorising cueing techniques, Julia’s education challenges practitioners to refine the thinking behind their decisions. Her work encourages curiosity over certainty, clinical reasoning over protocol and thoughtful observation over automatic correction.
Through a blend of contemporary evidence, practical exploration and real-world application, Julia supports teachers to develop a more discerning eye for movement, communicate with greater intention and create meaningful, lasting change for the people they work with. Her philosophy is simple: better teaching doesn’t come from knowing more exercises. It comes from seeing more clearly, asking better questions and making more informed decisions.
How we see → how we cue → how the body organises → how it feels to move.

THE NEXT EXERCISE
The Craft of Choosing What Comes Next
Julia Frankish
FRIDAY 27 November 12:30-2:30pm at The Movement Refinery
Movement teachers make these decisions constantly. We choose an exercise, the person moves, something happens — and then we have to decide: what next?
Rather than looking at programming as a predetermined sequence or searching for the “correct” progression, I’d like to explore the thinking that sits behind exercise selection, sequencing and adaptation.
The workshop will be built around three simple questions:
Why this exercise?
Why now?
What next?
The workshop doesn’t intend to to provide a programming formula or prescribe a “right” sequence. It’s really an exploration of the craft and decision-making behind good teaching — making some of the thinking we do intuitively more visible and giving people an opportunity to explore different, equally reasonable choices.
FEE: $140 AUD
