Beyond Stretching
“Tightness” is often the body’s way of creating stability when it feels uncertain. Simply stretching can reduce the symptom but not the cause.
Teaching for Control
As teachers, our role is to assess why tension is present. Does the client lack control, proprioception, or load tolerance? Teaching small, stabilising movements can restore balance more effectively than aggressive stretching.
Reframing the Narrative
When we teach clients that “tightness” can mean protection, we shift their mindset from frustration to curiosity. Helping them find control within range creates lasting change — and greater trust in their body’s intelligence.
