About us

The Studio Philosophy

At evolved, we’re creating a learning environment the actively facilitates efficient, thoughtful and pain free movement. We work specifically with each individual to address personal goals and to maximise strength and wellness.

Each class or treatment session addresses biomechanics, effective mechanical strategies, ongoing movement analysis, retraining and education to promote body awareness, optimal posture alignment and health and wellbeing. We base our sessions and treatment on current research, and use both Pilates and Remedial Massage to facilitate intelligent movement integrating body and mind.

Video ‘The evolved pilates philosophy’

Pilates was developed as a way to improve daily life. Regular Pilates workouts will help you strengthen the muscles in your body, making it easier for you to get out of bed, if that’s hard for you, or helping you improve your triple backflips, if that’s your thing.

In fact, whatever activity you do, you’ll find that Pilates will improve your strength in meaningful ways, as well as prevent injuries in your day-to-day life.

Massage

At Evolved Massage we strive to get to the source of pain and provide a targeted, healing treatment. Our focus is on empowering and educating clients to reach their full physical potential and live a pain free life.

Remedial massage is the systematic assessment and treatment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissues of the body to assist in rehabilitation, pain and injury management. After a thorough initial assessment a range of techniques will be used specific to your condition and goals.

I am currently co-chair of the APMA Education Committee and the owner and Director of Evolved Pilates, a new and innovative Pilates Studio in Fairfield. We also offer the APMA Level 2 Teacher Training Certificate. Example of recent lectures I have presented on to Pilates Instructors, Physiotherapist and other health professionals include Dynamic Hip Stability for the APMA, Springboard repertoire for the APMA and Posture and Alignment for the Southern Federation of Dance Teaching Certificate.

I have been instructing Pilates since 2005 and hold a Level 4 Professional Practitioner qualification with the APMA. While my training is comprehensive, I have a specific focus on rehabilitation. Having worked closely with physiotherapists and other practitioners within the industry, as well as having been a dance teacher for 12 years, I have an in-depth knowledge of physiology and biomechanics and my teaching and exercise prescription reflects the individual physical and mental needs of my clients.

I love to work with a variety of clients and have a particular interest in easing lower back pain, pelvic instability and lower limb dysfunction, spinal injuries and dance conditioning

I am a Level 2 certified instructor with the APMA and have been teaching Pilates since 2011. I was introduced to Pilates in 2009 and enrolled to become an instructor after just a few sessions. Having always stayed active through swimming, running or cycling, I love the precision and challenge of Pilates and how it brings strength and balance to the body.

I enjoy introducing people to the fundamentals of Pilates and have a particular passion for teaching pre and postnatal women. I also regularly participate in workshops and courses to improve and expand my knowledge. I hold a Bach of Commerce as well as certificates in massage, group fitness and nutrition and prior to teaching Pilates I worked in sports event management for seven years.

When I’m not teaching Pilates I have an 11-month-old baby boy keeping me busy. I also grab any opportunity to ride my mountain bike or escape the city to spend time in Mount Beauty.

Introduced to Pilates well over a decade ago whilst rehabilitating from a back injury, I was instantly intrigued with the method. I was keen to study Pilates in more depth and completed the APMA Level 2 Instructors course in 2008. Since then I have enjoyed working with a diverse range of clients from all walks of life and all levels of ability.

With an ongoing curiosity in the evolution of the Pilates method, I continue to enhance my knowledge and expertise in order to support each of my clients and maximize their health and well being.

As a business owner of Wordsworth Effective Communications I enjoy a busy life. When I’m not working I love walking (I have walked over 300 kms across Spain as well as the Kokoda trail) and recently started bike riding. My son and daughter share my interests in travel, lively discussions and a good laugh!

Melanie Smith

Melanie started her Pilates journey in 1999 while completing her BA Dance at the Victorian Collage of the Arts. Her love of all things movement based especially with attention to detail and technique had her soon training to become a Pilates teacher. Fortunate enough to do her training in an environment that was an apprenticeship style way of learning, she went on to sit her APMA level 3 exam in 2004. During her founding years as a teacher she was surrounded by experienced Pilates teachers and physiotherapists who helped shape the teacher she is today.

With now well over 10,000 hours of teaching behind her she enjoys her time in the studio where she gets to help people improve their pain levels and give them back the confidence to move freely. She is passionate about educating her clients on how to look after their bodies for the long term.

Her experience includes working with clients who have been referred from allied health practitioner’s, along with clients needing to improve functional movements for specific sports, including establishing a program for Fluid Movements triathlon squad and working with pro and semi pro athletes from 2007-2011.

My first introduction to Pilates was many years ago, when curiosity led me to take my first mat class. I was immediately drawn to how challenging the deceptively simple exercises were, which commanded a level of body awareness, precision and control that I had never previously experienced. Pilates quickly became my favourite form of exercise and has been a constant in my life ever since.

My love of Pilates and its amazing ability to condition the body, together with my keen interest in anatomy and the complexities of how the human body works, led me to undertake training to become an instructor. I completed my comprehensive Level 2 teacher training with the Australian Pilates Method Association. Dedicated to continuous learning, I frequently seek opportunities to learn from respected mentors within the Pilates industry, health professionals and other complementary movement modalities.

My goal as a teacher is to guide and support people of all levels and abilities (including athletes, people rehabilitating from injuries and retirees), to reach their greatest movement potential, for improved quality of life or to enhance sporting performance.

Additional qualifications: Certificate IV in Pilates and Certificate IV in Fitness

Vesna teaches classes on Tuesday evenings.

I have always been active and loved running and enjoyed playing netball and basketball and sport in general.

I first started studio Pilates at the end of 2014 after a hip injury which even after seeing a multitude of health professionals did not improve that is when my physio suggested I try Pilates. After only a few sessions I could feel the difference in my body and became hooked. I was amazed that the muscle retraining and education during my Pilates sessions could make such an improvement in my muscle balance and movement patterns.

Looking to do something different and with a background in exercise science becoming a Pilates instructor seemed like a natural progression and I enrolled in the Level 2 APMA instructing course at Evolved Plus in 2016.

Beck teaches classes on Friday morning.

After leaving a stressful corporate career and deciding to pursue my long term interest in bodywork I have never looked back. I completed a certificate in massage therapy specialising in relaxation in 2010, followed by a diploma of Remedial Massage and certificate of sports massage in 2013.  I am passionate about each client achieving their individual goals and aim to provide a nurturing and holistic experience.

I utilise a range of remedial and deep tissue techniques in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injury and postural dysfunction and love getting results, whether it be to relax and unwind or to regain movement and decrease pain.

I have a passion for the health and fitness industry and frequently enjoy participating in Pilates classes, swimming and getting outside into nature with my 2 young sons as well as receiving regular massage treatments myself.
